For this project, you will pick a documentary film that evaluates a social issue

For this project, you will pick a documentary film that evaluates a social issue. You will study the documentary and how it frames and explains the issue and what position on the social issue the documentary proposes for the viewer. You will then research the social issue and look for supporting, complicating or opposing evidence. Your paper’s thesis will evaluate, based on your
research and study of the data you find, the quality and validity of the arguments presented in the movie. You may not choose one of the documentaries we have studied in class. You must use at least 8 outside scholarly sources to evaluate your film: use the library’s online database to search for articles on your documentary’s topic to evaluate the quality of the film’s claims. For example, let’s say you choose Terms and Conditions May Apply to do study of corporate and government data collection practices. You would analyze the claims presented in the film and do research on data collection practices/protections to see if your findings support, complicate or
subvert the issue as framed in the movie.

For this assignment you will be telling a story. You do not need to be the focu

For this assignment you will be telling a story.
You do not need to be the focus of the story, but you do need to be involved in some way.
Think about a time when something did not go right, or a time when something went really well, a time when you were challenged in some way.
The story can be fiction, non-fiction, reality or imagined.
The story must be 3 to 4 pages long.
You need a thesis for your story. This is the main argument of what happened or what was supposed to happen.
Then, make sure that your paragraphs relate directly to the thesis.
As an added element, you must use 3 ideas or concepts from this week and last weeks’ reading to inform the story. After the story is written, you will write a 2 to 3 paragraph rationale (this is separate from the 3 to 4 pages for the story) for how the readings informed your story.
How did they influence you? What did you do with this information.
You have a lot of freedom here, but you must be able to explain how the readings influenced your essay.
Strong Suggestions:
Get our attention early.
The body of the essay should be loaded with details and all of the necessary context. Be vivid.
Explain what happened.
Wrap the story up. Write a thoughtful conclusion. Think about what you want your audience to take away from this story.
