What limitations, if any, did they note?

General Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is two-fold – to understand a researched-based strategy/evidence-based practice for students with EBD, and to practice engaging with and critiquing research. For the assignment, you will identify an empirical research article (a study) specifically focused on a strategy for students with EBD. Please follow timeline in syllabus for pre-approval of your chosen article. For assistance identifying an article, please contact Dr. Enders.
Introduction: Provide an introduction to the paper. Describe what the research is about and explain its focus. State the EBP being examined in this study. State the hypotheses or research questions.
Methods (Paragraph 1): Identify the subjects in the study. Discuss who are the participants, where they are located, and other demographic data provided. Identify the procedures/methods used in the study. (e.g., design of study, how many subjects, what they did)
(Paragraph 2): Describe the variables and explain how each variable was measured. Be specific. Identify the name of the measurement and a brief description of each.
Results and Discussion (at least 2 paragraphs): Discuss the results of the study. What did the authors learn from conducting the study? Did the data support or fail to support the stated hypotheses? What conclusions did the researchers draw from the results? What limitations, if any, did they note?
Critique (at least 2 paragraphs): Critique the study. Specify what was done well and what could have been improved. Describe if you think the research was valuable. Explain if you believe the study was practical and/or helpful? If so, to whom? State if there should be more research conducted in this area. Describe to whom the results of this study apply. Make recommendations for next steps in this line of research.

Explain the “why”, “what”, “who”, and “how” of each activity in your lesson plan.

Develop a lesson plan and design teaching materials that aim to provide a good model for how English varieties might be taught. The lesson plan and teaching materials should be ready to be used in practice by you or any other teacher. You can decide yourself how many lessons your plan will cover and the duration of those lessons, but I recommend at least three lessons so you can show progression in the coverage of different varieties and variation features.
The materials you design should be used together with the fully developed lesson plan. The focus of the material should be on teaching varieties of English and aspects of variation. You are free to design any kind of material in any format (written text, video, audio, game, etc.) with varying focus on reading, writing, listening, and/or speaking activities and exercises.
You should explain what the students should know and be able to do upon completion of the lesson(s). Clearly identify the knowledge and skills that they will acquire. Ensure that your students know what they will learn, why it is important to them, and how it relates to their lives.
The accompanying essay you write should explain the motivation and purpose of your lesson plan and teaching material. You should demonstrate how your lesson plan and teaching materials fulfil the requirements of the national curriculum with respect to teaching English varieties. In addition, you should review the relevant research literature in order to outline how English varieties should be covered and taught, and demonstrate how your own lesson plan and teaching resources are guided by the principles and approaches suggested in the literature.
The following questions might help you to formulate a research question or questions for the assignment.
Is there a gap or shortcoming in how English varieties are currently covered and taught in Norway/Sweden?
How does the literature suggest this gap (if there is one) might be filled?
What kind of criteria and approaches does the research suggest for selecting, covering, and teaching varieties of English?
To what extent can your lesson plan and the teaching materials be considered “best practice” for teaching English varieties?
Does your lesson plan reflect the approaches/criteria suggested by research and fulfil the requirements of the English curriculum for the level you have created these lessons?
Additional comments/suggestions:
Explain the “why”, “what”, “who”, and “how” of each activity in your lesson plan.
The lesson plan and the teaching materials should be submitted as appendices to your essay.
The attachments contains the Norwegian curriculum which are to be used, in addition to some other sources from the course. However, there will be a need to find more relevant sources.
